Wine & Sgrafitto: Paint & Carve a Plate
October 2nd - Rewind, paint and carve ceramic plates with me on this Friday evening
Service Description
On this Friday evening, we will light our candles, pour our drinks, and spend a relaxing evening painting and carving ceramic plates. This decorating technique is called **sgraffito**. I (Sebnem) will first introduce you to the ceramic-making process and explain how the technique works. Then, in a small group of maximum 8 participants, you will have the opportunity to unleash your creativity by decorating your own plate using a variety of coloured clay slips and underglazes (colourants that can be applied to unfired clay) before carving your design. You can create flowers, animals, fruits, abstract illustrations, or geometric patterns. Once your main design is complete, you can carve repetitive patterns into the background or combine painting and carving throughout your piece. We will have examples available for inspiration, but we also encourage you to browse online beforehand. If you search for **"sgraffito ceramic plate"** on Google Images or Pinterest, you'll find plenty of beautiful ideas. Please keep in mind that the workshop lasts 2 hours, so we recommend choosing a relatively simple design. After the workshop, I will carefully glaze your plate with a transparent glaze to give it a glossy finish and make it food-safe and water-resistant. The plates will be approximately 20–25 cm in diameter and can also be displayed as decorative wall pieces. The workshop price includes clay, coloured slips, underglazes, transparent glazing, two firings, as well as drinks and snacks. Your finished pieces will be ready for collection approximately 4–5 weeks after the workshop, depending on the studio schedule. We will notify you of the collection date via email or WhatsApp, so please make sure your contact details are entered correctly. The workshop requires a minimum of 4 participants and has a maximum capacity of 8 participants. All experience levels are welcome. **Please note:** Ceramics is a handmade process, and there is always a small element of unpredictability. Although we take great care when drying, glazing, and firing every piece, very occasionally an item may crack, warp, or break due to factors beyond our control. While these situations are rare, we are unfortunately unable to replace damaged pieces or offer refunds in such cases. Thank you for your understanding and for embracing the beautifully imperfect nature of ceramics.
